MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides, which comprise primarily caprylic (C8) and capric (C*0) fatty acids that occur naturally in coconut and palm kernel oils. The oil is clear, odourless and pleasant-tasting. MCTs have increased in popularity in tandem with the growth of low-carb, high fat diets (ketogenic/Banting) because they provide energy without the need for sugars/insulin. They are also used as a natural performance enhancer by athletes, bodybuilders as well as for weight loss. Anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial MCT oil can rid the gut of bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites.
